Description:
The RLN4460A is connected to the radio under test with a specific programming and test cable. This cable connects the signals present at the radio's universal or accessory connector, such as the external speaker and external Push To Talk (PTT) input, to the RLN4460A and to the programming system (RIB/SmartRIB and PC). The programming and test cable configures the RLN4460 as either a portable test set or mobile test set.
Each radio service manual describes the use of the test set, as well as the required cables, service aids, and equipment for rach service procedure.
Portable Radios:
For many years, the RTX4005 fulfilled the test set function for Motorola portable radios. The RTX4005B is distinguished by a unique, round connector that mates with all portable radio programming and test cables. The RLN4460A replaces this round connector with an industry standard 25 pin D connector. Programming and test cables with the unique round connector interface to the RLN4460A with the RTX4005 Adapter Assembly, Motorola part number 01-80303E49. The RTX4005 Adapter Assembly configures the RLN4460A as an RTX4005B. For service manuals that reference the RTX4005, use the RLN4460A according to cross reference table below.
Later model portable radios programming and test cables do not require the RTX4005 Adapter Assembly. These cables interface directly with the RLN4460A.
Always consult the portable radio service manual for correct use of the RLN4460A.
Mobile Radios:
When configured as a mobile test set, the RLN4460A supports the following mobile radio external speaker loads.
2 Ohms, 20 Watts 4 Ohms, 20 Watts 8 Ohms, 20 Watts
When selected by a programming and test cable, the EXTERNAL LOAD banana jack port connects unique speaker loads to a mobile radio's external speaker output. In this way, unique speaker loads (e.g. 6 Ohms, 12 Ohms) are supported by inserting the custom value into the EXTERNAL LOAD port.
Always consult the mobile radio service manual for correct use of the RLN4460A.
Service:
Since the RLN4460A contains industry standard components, part numbers for specific components are not available through Motorola, but may be purchased through any electrical component source for unit repair. A list of RLN4460A components, component ratings, component values, and requirements as well as a test set schematic are provided as an aid to repair.

01-80303E49 Adapter Assembly
Description:
The 01-80303E49 Adapter Assembly permits portable radios currently serviced by the RTX4005B to be serviced by the RLN4460A mobile/portable test set. The assembly consists of two parts: an adapter and a cable. The adapter has the RTX4005B 14 pin custom round connector and a 25 pin female D type connector. The adapter serves two purposes: 1) interface RTX4005B type portable radio test set cables with the round 14 pin connector to the RLN4460A mobile/portable test box 25 pin D type connector, 2) enable RTX4005B specific functions in the RLN4460A, such as the internal portable radio speaker loads (A, B, C, MX, MT). The cable terminated with two 25 pin male D type connectors connects the adapter to the RLN4460A. See the RLN4460A instructions above for complete operational details. Schematics for the adapter and the cable are provided for reference.
Service:
The round connector is available from Motorola for repair; the part number is 09-82201E01. All other components are industry standard parts; part numbers for specific components are not available through Motorola, but may be purchased through any electrical component source for unit repair.
